Loved your approach in the end, being patient and spending any time needed. Sometimes you just need the time to convince people.
Regarding the docuentation - "The document was written for them, so all the right information was available in a single place." - I think it's a good idea, but sometimes such documents might not do the job, when they are done retroactively (as you write them to convince the other side).
Writing it in real time, why you chose X versus Y, the results of your investigation and so on (as you mentioned, also providing the discarded alternatives). Then you are fully prepared :)
Thank you. Yea taking the time to convince is important.
I agree with you. Writing documents real time is the best. Those documentations never lose the nuances of the decision. Though in this case, it was bits and pieces from half a decade spread out in time.
Empathy always wins. Seeing situation from others perspective most times goes a long way in resolving issues.

"Putting a face to the discussion humanizes both sides. It makes it harder to hate each other."
I agree with this a lot. It's so hard to figure out conflicts over just messages or emails.
Thanks Leo. Yea messages are the worst to capture the tone of the discussion.
Loved the article and insights, Raviraj.
The lessons of documenting + making it face to face are often missed but have a huge impact. Really loved the personal touch to the story
Thanks Jordan. Yea they are so easy to miss in the moment.
